Bringing Healthcare Home: The Journey of Your Doctor to Your Home

When Dr. Mohammed Al‑Warrad started visiting patients in their homes during the COVID‑19 pandemic, he never imagined it would grow into a full‑scale medical service. What began as a personal effort to help those afraid of hospitals turned into a transformative healthcare startup: Your Doctor to Your Home.

A simple idea becomes a necessity

In 2018, Mohammed, an internist from Benghazi, noticed a gap in healthcare access—particularly for the elderly and chronically ill who struggled to visit hospitals. The pandemic intensified this issue, making people even more hesitant to seek medical care in public spaces.

"There were people who would reach out to me personally and ask me to come to their home for a checkup," he recalled. "With a stethoscope on my shoulders and a bag on my back, I would go to my patients in their homes."

For nearly six months, Mohammed worked alone, responding to requests and realising that this service was in high demand. "People considered it a fundamental solution to their issues," he said. As demand increased, he expanded his team to include other medical professionals, but it soon became clear that further growth was needed.

The challenge of expansion

Despite its early success, Your Doctor to Your Home faced significant challenges in scaling up. Requests for home healthcare services began arriving from cities beyond Benghazi, including Tripoli and Tobruk. "I realised that this was the perfect time to expand so we could meet the huge number of service requests," Mohammed explained.

A turning point came when a friend tagged him in a Facebook post about the TEC+ Business Accelerator. "He knew my business and believed in me, so he mentioned me in the post announcing TEC+," Mohammed said. Without hesitation, he applied.

In 2023, Your Doctor to Your Home was selected to join TEC+, a business accelerator funded by the European Union and implemented by Tatweer Research in partnership with the UN Development Programme (UNDP). The programme provided comprehensive training, mentorship, and funding opportunities to support emerging startups in Libya.

"TEC+ placed us in a structured training programme to build our capacity and polish our skills," Mohammed shared. "Someone might have ideas and strategies, but they need refinement and guidance to improve them."

Through TEC+, Mohammed received training in online marketing, financial management, and medical team coordination. Just as importantly, the accelerator created networking opportunities with investors and fellow entrepreneurs. "Even if I didn't win the grant, I knew I had gained something valuable—the knowledge and the connections," he said. "The network itself is a big win."

One of the most significant outcomes of TEC+ was a strategic partnership Mohammed formed with another healthcare startup, Spitar. "We shared common interests, and through TEC+, we connected and improved our services together," he explained.

The moment of triumph

As the TEC+ accelerator programme concluded, anticipation around the grant results grew. "The competition was tough because all the startups were strong," Mohammed recalled. "I kept checking my email, hoping for an announcement."

Then, one early morning, he woke up to the message he had been waiting for: Your Doctor to Your Home was among the top 10 startups in Libya selected for funding. "I couldn't go back to sleep after that. It was a moment of joy. Our hard work had paid off," he said.

With the TEC+ grant, Mohammed was able to expand his business significantly. "After the accelerator, our service requests doubled, and we strengthened our medical staff," he said. The startup now operates in multiple Libyan cities, employing doctors, nurses, medical secretaries, a nursing supervisor, physiotherapists, and ambulance drivers.

Inspiring the next generation

Today, Your Doctor to Your Home is more than just a business—it is a solution bridging gaps in healthcare access across Libya. "TEC+ isn't just an accelerator," Mohammed said. "It's a full ecosystem that combines training, networking, and investment to drive real growth."

Reflecting on his journey, Mohammed encourages other entrepreneurs to seek similar opportunities. "I thank Tatweer Research and the TEC+ team for their high‑quality training and support," he said. "If TEC+ launches again, I would be among the first to join. I'm still eager to learn and grow."

Through determination and the right support, Mohammed turned a simple idea into a thriving business that changes lives every day. His success is a testament to how innovation and perseverance can reshape Libya's healthcare landscape, one home visit at a time.
